Wuyi Mountains

Wuyishan is located in Fujian, China. It is about a 3-hour train ride from Shanghai and is one of three UNESCO World Heritage sites (culture, nature, and Wuyi cliff tea). The negative oxygen ion concentration in the air is over 20,000 per cubic centimeter. As one of the five-star National Forest Parks, Wuyi Mountain's forest cover rate is up to 95.8%. Its biodiversity is also a treasure of humanity. Historically, Wuyi Mountain has been a sacred place for Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism.
"Wuyi, divine mountains, gorgeous rocky ravine where good buds sprout and grow." — Zhao Mengfu (1254–1322)
Wuyishan, recognized by UNESCO as a world natural and cultural heritage site, is known for its danxia landforms, primary rainforests, and rich biodiversity. This unique terroir sustains two of the world's oldest and most intensely crafted teas: Cliff Tea & Lapsang Souchong.
"Its jade green waters, reddish rocky mountains, treasurous woods and divine grasses are favorites of my life. That's why walking [in Wuyishan] doesn't feel far." — Jiang Yan (444–505)
Paths contour ancient cliffs where the wild thrives. Bamboo, pine, and vines sway with the wind, singing the praises of the season. Passing fog, rain, and clouds make some thrive and some wane. In the immensity of nature, be cleansed by the wind. The aroma of the forest turns from intrigue to discovery, to longing and nostalgia. To recall its essence long after, make some tea.

Cuisine

So much of ancient Chinese wisdom is embodied in Chinese food. The food here compliments the local climate and nourishes one's health through the flavoring and craftsmanship. What's consumed on the table also comes from the mountain and nature, like bamboo shoots, osmanthus, and lotus hearts. During the retreat, you will get to explore the unique, authentic, and seasonal local cuisine, getting a glimpse of the everyday life philosphy of China through the lens of food.

Accomodation

The Mountain Fool Lodge, rehabilitated from an old local house and surrounded by bamboo and trees, sits beside a river and the UNESCO reserve. Intimate, cozy, and tranquil, it reflects traditional Eastern aesthetics in harmony with nature.
